Breast reduction, also known as Mammaplasty, is designed for
women with very large, pendulous breasts and who have suffered
medical problems as a result. The primary concern of the surgeon
is to alleviate the major symptoms while creating a much more
attractive appearance.
All uncertainty and risk factors will be discussed in
consultation. Breast reduction involves an anchor-shaped
incision that circles the areola, extending downward following
the natural curve of the crease beneath the breast. Excess
tissue, fat and skin are removed, and reshaping is done.
Liposuction may be necessary to remove excess fat in armpit
area. This procedure takes about two to three hours. Scarring
will vary among patients.
Insurance will be considered for this surgery if proper
documentation is provided to substantiate medical necessity. The
Liposuction portion, however, will not be a covered procedure.
